If walking is your passion, or you just want somewhere to stroll, The old Barn Cottage is an ideal base; with footpaths on your doorstep through to several long walks, including The Viking Way at 147 miles! These longer routes take in the most scenic parts of our Lincolnshire Wolds, an area of 220 sq miles of outstanding natural beauty.
Close by is Chambers Woods; a must, with several good paths that wander through the 900 acres of woodland. Chamber Woods has been rated one of the best sites in the UK for its insect life by the Forestry Commission. A multitude of birds from Nuthatch to Woodpecker, Woodlark and Buzzard can be seen and heard amongst the endless treetops. Also, Muntjac and Roe deer can be spotted rustling amongst the undergrowth.
Just a 15 minute drive away is Willingham woods, a very popular pinewood, with many paths and trails enjoyed by walkers, mountain bikers and horse riders. There is a café, picnic area and toilets.
Walk or cycle the Spa trail at Woodhall Spa, just off the B1191, on 3 miles of flat surfaced path/bridleway along the mid section of the Old Horncastle to Woodhall junction railway line and part of the Horncastle canal.
